Nissan Develops New Quick Charging Ports For Electric Cars

nissan-logo While they may have been seen as some experimental type of car in the past, electric cars are gradually becoming more mainstream. The last couple of years have brought major growths in this energy sector, thanks to partnerships and research regarding efficiency and environmentally friendliness. Electric cars now aren’t much more expensive than an internal combustion engine powered car, and their number of other features is also growing. #Nissan has also been working on new ways to make charging faster, more efficient and more accessible.

Heading to the pump and getting a full tank of gas is more expensive than the electricity to power a car, but the time investment has always been much greater. You can spend only five minutes at a gas station, but many electric cars in the past had charge times upwards of an hour. At home or during work this isn’t a big deal as you can just leave it overnight or during the day, but for road trips or vacations it can slow you down. Fortunately, Nissan has designed and installed dual port DC fast chargers that are capable of bringing an electric car to 80% power in under half an hour.

 

Nissan’s No Charge to Charge program is responsible for installing these high tech stations in order to bring clean energy to Nissan Leaf owners. Each person who buys or leases a new or pre-owned Leaf will receive two years of charging at the stations, at no cost to them. Nissan and BMW have partnered together in order to bring even more Combined Charging Systems to additional areas this coming year, and Nissan estimates that soon 90% of Leaf owners will be able to enjoy this feature.
