Ed was well known during the 40’s and 50’s for his groundbreaking work in the field, and he even served as a model and inspiration for several “Doc” characters in Steinbeck’s novels such as “Cannery Row.” He made some important and lasting contributions to science during his lifetime, and his old lab is now a historic building full of excitement.
