Along with making driving easier, autonomous car systems play a major part in reimagining the taxi and ride-sharing industry in Monterey. Many services such as Uber and Lyft are only just a tap on a smartphone away, but both depend on people to do the driving. A self-driving taxi would never need to take breaks and ultimately would be more efficient and cheaper. Implementation

The biggest question when considering any new proposal is how it will be implemented. A standard taxi or pick up service will almost certainly be present in order to transport people around the city. Nissan is also considering a bus-like system, which would include a whole fleet of autonomous cars moving along a designated route and picking up passengers at specific stops. This would allow people who don’t have the money for or simply don’t travel enough to warrant a car to have another source of reliable transportation.
